About Me
My name is Ashlin Awerkamp. I am a professional freelance editor, proofreader, and typesetter.
I graduated from Brigham Young University with a bachelor of arts in editing and publishing. I have completed several editorial internships, including at BYU's Religious Studies Center, Cedar Fort Publishing, and Future House Publishing. In these roles I performed such tasks as copyediting, formatting citations, and proofreading, though I have training in reviewing acquisitions, substantive editing, and typesetting as well. As a student I also volunteered as the editor in chief of Schwa, BYU's language and linguistics student journal, and as a managing editor of Leading Edge, BYU's science fiction and fantasy student journal. Currently I volunteer as the head of print design for Life, the Universe, and Everything.
Reading has been my favorite hobby all my life, and I've always had an eye for detail. As a high school student I would read articles on grammar and usage using the Dictionary.com app on my phone, and I enjoyed checking out the word of the day. I knew for sure I had picked the right career when this last year I found a page from my diary that showed me using professional editing marks at age ten. Aside from reading and editing, I like to fill my time playing Spikeball and pickleball, knitting and crocheting, beating my husband at various tabletop games, and preparing to have my first baby.
I love when words power emotion and when reading touches the heart. My passion lies with fiction novels for all ages. My goal is to help writers reach their readers and produce brilliant stories by helping them communicate clearly, thoughtfully, and artistically. I give my work my very best so that your work becomes your very best, and because you deserve nothing less than an A.
